The Nestlé Ice Cream Company was established in 1996 when Nestlé and Osem acquired 50% of Snowcrest and Teneh Noga Ice Creams which were, at the time, owned by Tnuva. This acquisition marked the beginning of a new era in Israel’s ice cream market. After three years of production in the veteran ice cream factories–Snowcrest in Petach Tikvah, and Teneh Noga in Kiryat Malachi–a decision was made to build a new factory in Kiryat Malachi and to consolidate the activities of both companies in the one location.

The leading brands are La Cremeria, Extreme, Mega and Cookielida. Osem recently acquired the remaining shares from Tnuva, and the Nestlé Ice Cream Company is currently owned entirely by Osem.

The ice cream and ice-lolly market in Israel is dynamic and highly competitive. With its 1996-acquisition of 50% of Snowcrest and Teneh Noga, Osem-Nestlé brought added value to these cold sweet products when it entered this market. Osem-Nestlé brought with it novel ideas, more flavors and new textures, thereby raising the level of creativity needed by all the ice cream manufacturers. Osem-Nestlé also helped to improve product quality–because of Nestlé’s internationally high standards in the field, other manufacturers were also forced to raise their product quality standards in order to remain competitive in the market.

Nestlé’s believes in promoting local flavors and developing a product line that suits the Israeli consumer. However, the company also has a number of internationally-known brand names which it produces in all its factories throughout the world. The leading brands in this category are La Cremeria, Extreme and Mega.

Nestlé’s ice cream products for domestic consumption can be divided into three types. The first is a multiple-portion package containing a number of individually-wrapped ice creams; the second type is desserts; the third type is ice cream in family-sized containers.

That Nestlé Ice Cream Company decided that they would base the Nestlé Ice Cream marketing position on the platform of the domestic consumption products. In order to reinforce this move a brand consolidation was held, and products such as Cassata, Melt-in-the-Mouth, etc. were included under the familiar La Cremeria brand.

The La Cremeria brand is divided into three different series:

La Cremeria Premium–ice cream with a special flavor such as Dulce de Leche and Pecan, Coconut, Cream Cheese and Blackberry; Vanilla and Cookies–is aimed at people who enjoy ice cream with a sophisticated flavor.

La Cremeria for the Whole Family–ice cream with flavors that suit the whole family such as Italian Vanilla, Choco Flick, Pistachio Nuts, etc.

La Cremeria Double–a world-wide innovation that became a dizzying success overnight. Developed in Israel, this innovative concept offers a unique combination of two layers of ice cream, each with a different texture, for example strawberries and cream and chocolate and cream. This product won first place when external tasting tests were held for all the new products on the market.
